10 Things to Consider When Doing a Blog Post

The internet is full of useful information but most of which remains buried and undiscovered in the depths of the world wide web.  The reason, they are away from the attention of the search engines.  What’s the use of being a good writer if your prospect readers can’t find the information you write.

Here are some basic technical tips and factors that you should consider so that your blog posts will be visible to the search engines in the world wide web. You can also use these tips to increase your site’s traffic.

1. Topic
   Stick to your blog’s niche.  Search engines and human readers give more weight to blog entries which are relevant to the general niche of the whole blog.  Make sure also that the blog posts you right are useful to your readers. Build their interest to your blog by giving them quality posts.
2. Post Title
   Blog titles play a big role in getting the attention of search engines.  Titles which contains the target keyword generally ranks higher in the search engine’s result pages.  For example, your topic is Acme Awards and you want to write about your experience during the Acme Awards culmination. Having “Results of Acme Awards” as a title is better than “Last night’s event”.  We understand that a lot of people are very creative when choosing post titles but setting that aside for technicalities won’t do much harm.
3. Tags
   I discovered that tags in your posts helps a lot in increasing your site’s traffic.
   Here are some reasons:
   • It decreases your visitor’s bounce rate (which means they browse more pages)
   • It increases your pageviews per visitor
   • It recalls old posts that are hidden
   • It can be used to increase the possible keyword combination for your blog post
4. Keywords
   Choose your target keyword before writing your blog post. Put yourself in the shoe of the person who wants to know about your blog post.  Think of the most probable search engine keyword that the person might you if he wants to learn about the topic your writing.  And finally, use this keyword as often as possible within your post, about two to five times will do.
5. Categories
   Assign a category which is most appropriate for the topic you are writing.  We have learned in the previous post the importance of categories, specially when you are using categories in your permalink structures.
6. Permalinks
   When using WordPress, you are given the option to alter your permalink.  Make sure that you use the most optimum permalink for your blog post. Remove unnecessary words in your permalink.  Make sure that the target keyword is present within your permalink.
7. Social Bookmarks
   Another useful tools for increasing your site’s traffic are Social bookmarks.  Social bookmarks are sites like deli.cio.us, digg.com and stumbleupon. These sites allow you to submit your content.  Submitting your blog posts to these sites increases the chances of getting a crawl from the search engine. Thus, increases your blog posts’ visibility in the world wide web.
8. Link Building
   Link building is also important in driving traffic towards your blog post.  Search engines give more weight to your blog entry if other websites or pages link to your post.  There are more technical issues when it comes to link building but the general rule is, link to relevant sites or pages only.
9. Social Networks
   Social networks also give a temporary boost and visibility to your blog posts.  By announcing your blog posts to your friends, you are giving your site a temporary boost is traffic.  It also increases the potential of readership if your friends find your posts interesting.
10. Feeds
    Feeds extends the reach of your blog.  Some readers have no time to browse through your blog to see if you have blog posts.  Providing an RSS Feed for your blog increases the chances that your users will read your blog once you post a new entry.
